Things to do in Brighton

Brighton offers so many entertainments, diversions and places to visit – you are spoilt for choice.

For a start, the beachfront at Brighton is the focus of the town’s activities. It offers swimming, sailing, basketball,  surfing, skateboarding, volleyball and lots more. Other sports include a day at Brighton Races or a night at Brighton Greyhound stadium.  You can walk or cycle the rolling South Downs – or just stand and watch the famous annual London to Brighton RAC Veteran Car Run in early November as it reaches its destination.

Other regular events include the National Speed Trials, power boat racing, a kite festival, the International Sand Sculpture Festival, The Brighton Festival (England’s largest annual arts festival) – and numerous music performances and recitals at the many beachside venues.

With three cinemas, 10 theatres, five casinos, 30 clubs and hundreds of pubs, you’ll be tempted out every night in Brighton. What’s more, at 400+, there are more restaurants in Brighton per head of population than anywhere in the UK outside of London. That means you can eat out at a different place every night for two years and not eat at the same restaurant twice.

In addition, there are dozens of art galleries museums and historical buildings to visit. Once you get the fabulous Royal Pavilion and the historic Palace Pier out of the way, you are still left with the fascinating exhibitions at local museums and galleries. These include the Brighton Museum and Art Gallery, the Booth Museum of Natural History as well as many specialist venues such as The Phoenix Gallery and the Thomas Stanford Museum at Preston Manor.

For a more erudite slant on Brighton life, you will never be short of adult education courses at one of the many educational establishments in the area.

However you want to pass your time, you’ll discover a never-ending calendar of things to see and do in Brighton.
